Christine graduated from Pratt Institute with a degree in Illustration. She lives in Setauket, New York with her husband Lenny and their yellow lab Dakota. Christine told us, “I absolutely love dogs and volunteer at the Guide Dogs for the Blind in Smithtown, NY, where I play with the dogs to give them a break from their rigorous work schedule.”

Elena graduated from The School of Visual Arts in NYC. She is a renowned portrait artist who also teaches fine art workshops to children and adults. She also illustrated A Night of Tamales and Roses, which was listed in The Bank Street College of Education - Best Children's Books of 2008.

Lisa and Jennifer are twin sisters who grew up sharing everything: their clothing, their bedroom and their fascination with horses. At age 14, they got their first  job cleaning horse stalls and they loved it!

Today they combine their love of horses  with their work in the field of physical therapy.  They still  enjoy spending time together, and live just down the road from each other in northeastern Indiana.

Star of the Show is Della’s fourth children’s book. Her other titles include the picture book, How Will I Ever Sleep In This Bed? (Sterling Publishing, 2005) and beginning readers: Hey! You're Eating My Homework (Bebop Books, 2005) and Picnic On The Sidewalk (Seedling Publications, 2003). Della lives in Hyde Park, New York with her husband, three kids, a rabbit and tropical fish.

Susan Grigsby lives in St. Louis, MO. Her poetry has been published in journals and anthologies. In the Garden with Dr. Carver is her first picture book.
She has a Masters in Teaching and teaches creative writing in schools, museums, and nature centers, often integrating the lessons with science, social studies, and art.

Christopher is a stay-at-home dad who quit his job in 2005 as an editor at The Wall Street Journal web site to care for his son. Chris has been a journalist for 19 years and his essays on parenting have been published in a variety of publications. He lives in New Jersey with his wife and son, Nicholas.

Doreen was born and raised in New Jersey. Through her career as antique dealer she discovered the world of antique children's books and became an avid collector. Inspired by the birth of her niece Grace in 2000, she began writing her own original children's stories. She and her husband, now reside in Litchfield County, CT.

Penny graduated from Douglass College in New Jersey. She taught high school English for many years. Currently she is a teaching artist for New Jersey State Council on the Arts’ new project Poetry Out Loud.  In the last decade, Penny has authored seven poetry books: Shadow Play: Night Haiku, Stages and Views, Grandmother's Milk, Turtle Blessing, Lizard Light: Poems From the Earth, Buried in the Sky, and Along River Road.

Rolf was born in Hamburg, Germany. He studied at the Hamburg Academy of Fine Arts and spent his early years working as a designer in both German and Canadian agencies. Rolf has designed over 70 postage stamps for Canada Post Corporation and won numerous national and international design awards.

John grew up watching the birds soar above the harbors of New York City. There he spent countless hours admiring these wondrous creatures whose voices became the inspiration for The Birds of the Harbor. A poet at heart, he spent seven years under the tutelage of W.H. Auden. John is the father of five grown children and is a psychologist in northern California.

Award-winning author Ellen Jackson has written over 60 books for children. She lives in Santa Barbara, California with her husband Roger and her very fine dog, Abby.

 Author, poet and teacher Jeanne Kaufman loves folk tales – especially those with dragons. She grew up in central New York state and went adventuring for many years before settling down in Boulder, Colorado where she lives with her husband and two daughters, Maia and Kira.

Playwright, author, and arts educator, Joanna is Professor Emeritus of Theater and former Graduate Coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Arts for Children Program at the State University of New York College at Brockport.

Alexandra was born in St. Peterburg, Russia. At the age of seventeen she majored in illustration at the prestigious St. Peterburg Academy of Art.

Gena graduated from the State University of New York at Fredonia and went on to recieve her masters in art education from Elmira College. She now teaches art at Hammondsport Central High School in the Finger Lakes region of New York. I Like Gum is her first children’s book.

Patricia is an award-winning fine artist and graphic designer. The owner of Saxton Illustration & Design Studio, she lives in Summit, New Jersey with her daughter, Carolyn.

Niki is a freelance children's author who grew up in the small New England town of Ware, MA. She now lives in the Charlotte, NC, area with her husband, two kids, two dogs and two cats.  An avid reader of books for all ages, Niki combines her love of writing and her love of reading by writing book reviews for Curled Up With a Good Book and CurledUpKids.com.

Karelyn Siegler was born in Dundee, Scotland.  She was raised in Houston, Texas where she grew up riding horses.  Today Karelyn lives in Forest Hills, NY and teaches at Parsons School of Design in New York City.  Karelyn has created artwork for easy-reader books, book jackets, greeting cards and textile design. This is her first picture book.

Wes enjoys creating images using a wide range of techniques, and is especially fond of children's book art from the sixties and seventies.  He has a bachelor's degree in fine art from Southeastern Louisiana University and a Master's degree in fine art from the University of Wisconsin in Madison where he specialized in printmaking and also taught figure drawing.

Illustrator

Born in Finland, Daria Tessler grew up in southern California. She attended the University of California at Santa Cruz where she studied lithography and mathematics. Her whimsical artwork, a combination of drawing, painting, doodling and traditional silkscreen, have been exhibited in galleries throughout the United States and the United Kingdom.

Mary has written and illustrated many books for children. Her titles include The Market Lady and the Mango Tree, The Butterfly Seeds, My Own Big Bed and Some Place Like Home. She is the creative director of Shenanigan Books, a company she founded “to keep the magic in children's books alive.”

Pete was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Dahomey, Benin when he first experienced the magic of African culture. The journals he kept while living in a small farming village were the inspiration for The Heart of the Lion and for his first children's book, The Market Lady and the Mango Tree.

Illustrator

Tony was born in California, but spent most of his life on the east coast. Recently, he returned to California to seek out his fortune and warmer weather. Growing up on a healthy diet of comics and cartoons, he loved to draw superheroes and monsters.
